The 90-mile race is 1/2/3 laps of an identical ~29.6-mile loop through Fort Ord National Monument and the Laguna Seca circuit, so signature features (Lookout Ridge, the sand pits, the finishing climb) recur every lap rather than appearing once.

A huge fast descent to kick it off before heading into the kind of meat and potatoes of the race. Short climbs, really intense. It's that first descent that a lot of them are going to be really nervous and keyed in on as they then go out.

The 2025 race featured "a pretty warm day" that caught Steph Hart unprepared with only two bottles, forcing a refill stop at 50 miles. April in Monterey averages 62°F highs with potential marine layer and fog. The coastal conditions never quite warm up despite decent sunshine hours, making hydration planning critical. Everything happens at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with packet pickup running Wednesday through Sunday morning. Four-day pass includes parking, while gear bag drop transports to the mile 12 aid station. The festival infrastructure handles 74,000 fans annually, so race logistics are dialed to professional standards.[12]
The Start Section requires climbing "out of the racetrack and onto half a mile of single track, then a fast but loose 3 mile descent." Racing through Fort Ord National Monument where 1.5 million troops trained for Vietnam adds historical weight.
