We started with a really fast part with everyone trying to separate themselves, that moved into the mud Canyon which was totally crazy and caused a lot of issues for a lot of people, then there was the cow path of death probably the most spectacular spot of the course, then we had an insane 45 percent grade hike a bike section.

"unclassifiable" with "WhiteClaw hand ups, ball pits" and cattle dodging, while past years included "beachballs thrown down a hill at riders" and riding through Sam's actual house. The 2026 course replaces the house with "a ride-through bar," maintaining Sam Ames' annual tradition of curated absurdity.[3]

Grew from 50 riders to 761 participants in 2025 with global reach, but Sam Ames explicitly states "We never wanted to deal with podiums, prize money" - the community values stories over status.[7]
If you need your races predictable and your routes announced more than a week out, keep scrolling. This is for riders who want their fitness tested by 30% run-ups, cattle dodging, and whatever Sam Ames dreamed up the night before.
