RIDERS REPORT
Forest Service roads climbs
The climbs hit after deceptive calm wide gravel flats, gravel gets looser, climbs get punchier, and riders are exposed to long stretches that really test your legs and your mindset.
Rock hazards
If you're right on the wheel and clip rock and flat, you're going to lose a lot more time than if you ride steady and smart.
Starts with deceptive calm wide gravel flats and quiet countryside but soon enough the climbs hit. Gravel gets a little looser on the climbs. The gravel was pristine on Forest Service roads.
Surprised at just how varied the terrain was and just how challenging the course was. Only a small portion was on the KVR trail as expected.

The ride took riders up on Forest Service roads up in behind Princeton and they turned out to be absolutely amazing. The gravel was pristine and the views of Princeton and the surrounding area was just spectacular.

I think everybody was surprised by this course. Certainly, Catherine and I were under the impression that a good portion of this ride was going to be on the KVR. As it turns out, only a small portion was on the KVR.

The unique thing with gravel racing is a lot of it is actually like a race against yourself. Mostly you're racing yourselves.

RIDERS REPORT
Don't ride right on the wheel like in road racing - if you clip rock and flat you'll lose more time than if you ride steady and smart and calculated.
Speed is not part of these types of gravel events. It's just about showing up and getting in a good workout.
