Sunday Stage 2 in 2015 hit "near 90°F temperatures" that created dangerous conditions - Pfaff Daddy "was getting seriously dehydrated" and "just sat down in the gravel" at the aid station despite being an experienced endurance rider. The 50% DNF rate reflects how heat and humidity compound the physical toll. October timing in coastal South Carolina still delivers punishing conditions that northern riders underestimate. Number pickup at 7:00 AM race day creates timeline pressure, especially with mandatory 8:45 AM rider meeting. Jake Andrews dominated the prologue but DNF'd Stage 2 when "his rear derailleur had other plans... The landscape of potholes, gravel and mud can take their toll on riders, bikes, and in this case, jockey pulleys." GPS files provided two weeks prior, but "routes will not be marked" in Francis Marion National Forest where "there are no services (including most cellular)."[4]
