Strategy is critical - every climb has to be ridden above threshold, but if you keep doing that there's a moment you're going to explode. It's not a good idea to ride your own pace from the start, but if you feel like you're going to blow up, you're already too late with riding at your own pace.
Don't try to stay with riders who are significantly better - they are going to drop you eventually on this demanding course.
