Long, hot, and humbling. NOT flat—'hill after hill after hill' averaging 4-5% grade either up or down for roughly 150 miles through iconic cornfields. The official 2026 route measured 151.7 miles with 10,100+ feet of climbing, but overnight storms forced organizers onto a 148-mile wet course with fewer minimum-maintenance-road sections. Rolling hills

87 hills over the 150 mile course with no flat roads in Nebraska. The roller coaster hills slowly ramp up causing you to lose speed over the top and then have to accelerate down, which zaps your legs.

Crosswinds and echelons

Long straight roads that can wreak havoc if the wind is blowing. Crosswinds create echelon formations that add difficulty to the race.

Deep gravel sections

Many sections of gravel put riders into difficulty. You need to be very relaxed and allow the bike to float, especially if you start slipping and sliding around in the deep gravel.

Roads are in primo shape for much of the course but there are many sections of deep gravel that require you to stay relaxed and let the bike float to avoid slipping and sliding.

The terrain is more relentless than Unbound with constant up and down roller coasters. There are no flat roads in Nebraska and the surfing motion over hills zaps your legs.

In my opinion, it's actually harder than Unbound. Yeah, it's 50 miles less, but I think the terrain is just a little more relentless. One thing I quickly learned last year is there's no flat roads in Nebraska.
