A three-lap long course built around a 36 km core loop from Marathon Stadium. Each lap includes a gentle 4 km climb, a 300 m concrete wall at 12%, five kilometres beside Lake Marathon, alternating farm-road gravel, a shallow stream, a 600 m climb at up to 11%, and 1.5 km of asphalt over Marathon Dam.
Signature challenge: Treating the first lap as reconnaissance, the second as work, and the third as a race—especially when the 12-percent wall and 11-percent climb return with more than 4,000 feet already in the legs.

Concrete wall
A gentle 4 km climb ends with 300 metres of concrete at up to 12 percent.
Lake and farm roads
Soft lake-edge dirt transitions repeatedly into rougher and smoother farm-road gravel before the stream crossing.
Dam return
A 600 m climb at up to 11 percent precedes the final asphalt passage over Marathon Dam—and then the long-course riders do it again.
Final-lap wall
The last return to the concrete wall exposes anyone who raced the first two laps instead of pacing them.
