Current UCI materials list the long route at 133 kilometres, and the organizer says the route did not change when the 2026 event moved to September 26. The organizer describes approximately 90 percent gravel through open farmland, rolling hills, smaller forest tracks, and rocky descents. The named 133-kilometre route records 1,196 metres of gain, retained as a numeric best value with gain_display Varies.
From the Field
It's 17 km with like a steep hill in the beginning and a steep one almost before the finish line, which are the tough parts especially for me. A bit of technical section in between, but nothing too crazy.

Stage two was a UCI race and it started with this Mass start neutral section of women only and I actually found this bit quite hard because I don't like road racing for a reason and it felt a bit like the start of a road race.

We were going pretty hard at the start and I knew it would be like this and this would be potentially like the crucial moment where the group would kind of split up so I tried to keep as far forward as I could.

I actually only going to do stage two and stage three because I did the stage race last year and I just think that for me it's more important to get a better result on stage two which is the UCI race

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the climate like at Gravel Grit 'n Grind?
The race moved from mid-August to late September for 2026 (permit reasons), so older mid-August weather patterns no longer apply to race day. Late September in coastal Halland runs crisper and more changeable — golden autumn light one year, sideways coastal rain the next, with no reliable regional data specific to Halmstad. Scandinavian autumn generally avoids extreme heat but can surprise you with rain or wind off the coast. The forest sections provide natural shelter, while open farm roads expose you to whatever weather shows up.[1]
How are the logistics for Gravel Grit 'n Grind?
Sweden's infrastructure generally handles events competently, but specific logistics details remain frustratingly absent from available information. No clear intel on parking, packet pickup, or nearest airports forces you to assume competence rather than verify it. The multi-day format suggests they've thought beyond just race day execution, though what that actually means stays unclear.[1]
How adventurous is Gravel Grit 'n Grind?
The course promises variety through "deep shadowy forests" transitioning to coastal farmland via winding gravel roads around Halmstad. The landscape changes and rolling terrain create natural adventure without manufactured difficulty. It's Sweden, not the Sahara, so adventure comes from scenery and surface variety rather than survival challenges, which suits most riders just fine.[1]
How prestigious is Gravel Grit 'n Grind?
Part of the UCI Gravel World Series and hosts the Nordic Gravel Championship, which sounds impressive until you realize it's one of 45 events across 32 countries. The organizers boldly claim it's "possibly the best gravel race in Europe," but that's what every race director says when they can't point to actual achievements. Without known winners or recognizable pro fields, it's trading on UCI branding rather than earned reputation.[1]
