The 2019 course redesign created "a nearly all downhill 4 mile run into the finish" after riders "left it all out on the course for the gravel road loops." Race Director Justin Mace configured the Tanasi singletrack on the front end while riders were fresh. Dylan Johnson's winning move came when "we entered the final single track together and I quickly took the lead and gave it everything I had" with cramping threatening in the final miles.[1]

The NUE Epic and Marathon Series draws elite talent like Dylan Johnson, who won in 5:37:57 after trading pulls with Brian Schworm until "twenty miles to go." "the pace would be higher this year since the distance was shorter and this was indeed the case." The race consistently sells out and pulls riders "from all over the US and Canada," but remains mountain bike endurance territory rather than mainstream gravel racing.[1]

If you want a 100-mile mountain challenge with significant climbing—yes, it's a solid event. If you want pro field depth or cooler conditions—look elsewhere.
